citizens police academy

Durango, CO: Durango Police Department kept sharp in 2023 with over 7,000 hours of cumulative training, 148 cases closed by detectives, and handling almost 44,000 different incidents.

Unfortunately, two homicides took place in Durango in 2023, but the fast-acting Durango police and its law enforcement partners were able to make arrests in both cases.

Ongoing efforts by the Durango Police Department stop vehicle theft have proven to be effective in 2023, as motor vehicle theft was down 22% in Durango in 2023. Of the 28 reported vehicle thefts 21 were recovered.

Roughly 77% of aggravated assault incidents resulted in an arrest in 2023.

“Our commitment to transparency is evident in the annual performance indicators, providing the community with a clear view of the Durango Police Department’s dedicated service and professionalism,” said Police Chief Bob Brammer. “We continue to prioritize our primary mission, ensuring that our staffing and facility requirements align with the growth and the demand of the community.”

The Durango Police Department has a team of 83 individuals serving the community. Among them, 57 serve as sworn officers, while 25 contribute as non-sworn support staff.
