City residents can now apply for the Food Tax Rebate and Utility Refund

Durango, CO: Applications for the Food Tax Rebate Program and the Utility Refund Program open on Monday, Feb. 5, and will be available through July 5.

City residents with a total household income no greater than 50% of the Area Median Family Income for La Plata County may qualify for a rebate or refund. The rebate and refund amounts are determined by family size, as published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for 2023.

  • To qualify for the Food Tax Rebate Program: Only residents who lived within the city limits for the full 12 months of 2023 are eligible to apply for the Food Tax Rebate Program. La Plata County residents living outside city limits are not eligible. The applicant must apply for all family members within the household and must list all family members and identify related income for each family member.  Applicants must meet all program requirements in the application. Food Tax Rebate Program Income Guidelines and rebate amounts per household are:

  • To qualify for the Utility Refund Program: Only residents who owned and occupied a home within Durango city limits, received city of Durango utility services, and resided in that home on Dec. 31 and for at least 10 months during 2023 are eligible to apply for the Utility Refund Program. The applicant must apply for all family members within the household and must list all family members and their income, if applicable. To apply for the refund, you must meet all program requirements in the application. Utility Refund Program Income Guidelines and refund amounts per household are:

Both Programs’ applications are available at Durango City Hall, 949 East Second Ave., the Durango Regional Transit Center 250 West Eighth St., and the Durango – La Plata Senior Center 2424 Main Ave.  The applications are also available on the city’s website at Refund and Rebate Programs.  All completed applications and supporting documents must be submitted by July 5, 2024.
