Open house Feb. 9 at former Big Picture High School building

ComDev Open House

Durango, CO:  The community is invited to an open house at the former Big Picture High School building for a celebration of the newly renovated space that now houses the city's Community Development Department and the Engineering Division of Public Works.

The event will take place noon-2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9 at 215 E. 12th St. Following remarks from Mayor Melissa Youssef, a ribbon-cutting will take place and tours will be available as well as refreshments.

City staff moved into the new office space Jan. 12 and provide the services formerly available at River City Hall including building permits, inspections, right-of-way permits, land use inquiries, and items related to housing and economic development. "We're excited to have more opportunities to collaborate with the community and provide exceptional customer service," said Community Development Director Scott Shine.

The move is part of a real-estate deal between the city and the Durango Fire Protection District where the fire district received River City Hall in exchange for the city receiving the former school and the adjacent Durango School District 9R administration building. Longterm plans call for the former administration building to be renovated into space to house the Police Department and City Hall.
