Snowdown lowdown: city sponsored events, transit opportunities and parking tips


Durango, CO:  Snowdown is here, and the city wants to let you know about its events, free transit opportunities, and where to park during the parade.


The city will be hosting events throughout Snowdown at the Durango Public Library located at 1900 East Third Ave., the Durango Community Recreation Center located at 2700 Main Ave., and Chapman Hill Ice Rink located at 500 Florida Road.


  • Peace, Love, & Crafts Jan. 26, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Speed Friending Jan. 27, 2 - 4 p.m.
  • Flower Garlands Jan. 30, 4 – 6 p.m.

Recreation Center

  • Knock out/Around the world basketball Feb. 3, 9 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

Chapman Hill

  • Hippie Broomball Feb. 3, 1:45 p.m.


  • Durango Public Transit will be free from Jan. 31 through Feb. 4 running between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
  • On Feb. 2 from 4:30 – 9 p.m. a shuttle will run between the La Plata County Fairgrounds located at 2500 Main Ave., and the Durango Transit Center at 250 W. Eighth St.  
  • Free transit does not extend to the evening DuranGO! service, which will be available 8 – 12 p.m. for $2 per ride.


The City of Durango will close the following streets and restrict parking for the Snowdown Parade on Friday, Feb. 2:

  • Fifth Street from Main Avenue to Park Elementary School will be closed starting at 1:30 p.m.
  • Traffic will not be permitted along the parade route on Main Avenue, from Fifth to 14th streets, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
  • All vehicles parked in private lots adjacent to street closures should leave before 2:30 p.m.
  • College Drive will remain open to through-traffic only (no turns onto Main Avenue will be allowed) until 5 p.m.
  • Parking will not be permitted in any private lots, including the Town Plaza Parking lot and the Albertson's parking lot.
  • Be mindful of “No Parking” signs on parking meters. No Parking signage goes up before the roads close. Vehicles inside the closure areas at the time of the parking closure will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Parking for the parade is available at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.  A free shuttle will run from 4:30 to 9 p.m. between the fairgrounds and the Transit Center.
