City seeks input on use of parking lot near library

3rd St Meeting

Durango, CO: The future of the overflow parking lot used by the Durango Public Library will be discussed at a neighborhood meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11 at the library.

This site, at 1917 East Third Ave., is owned by the city. In addition to the library, it is also used as overflow parking for the nearby Riverside Professional Building, East Fassbinder Professional Building, and other adjacent properties. The area has had a planned-development designation since 2007, but since the character and use of the area has evolved the city would like to explore opportunities for use of this site.

The meeting will take place in the library’s program rooms and begin with a brief presentation to review the history, uses, and constraints of the site and surrounding area. An opportunity will then be available to discuss possible future uses of the site and priorities with staff. It is important to note that there is no formal proposal for a specific development. This meeting is intended to be a time to discuss possibilities from adjacent property owners and the neighborhood before taking any concrete steps in any direction.

The meeting will be held in person to allow for participation from all interested parties. Presentation slides and a summary of the meeting will be posted to the City’s website following the meeting.

Public comments may be submitted to the Community Development Department via mail or email for staff’s review for anyone unable to attend the meeting. Comments can be mailed to: City of Durango, Community Development Department, 949 E. 2nd Avenue, Durango, Colorado, 81301 or e-mailed to
