City to hold neighborhood meeting to review design concepts for improving safety on Junction Street

JuctionSt

Durango, CO: The city of Durango is holding a neighborhood meeting for the Junction Street Traffic Calming Design Project on Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. in the auditorium at Miller Middle School, 2608 Junction St.

This meeting is to receive feedback on the conceptual design for Junction Street that was created based on previous neighborhood feedback, survey results on alternatives, best practices, and constraints. The project scope includes traffic calming, pedestrian and bicycle facility improvements along Junction Street from West 2nd Avenue to County Road 204 or Dalla Mountain Park.

“We approached this project differently than past projects by going to the neighborhood before starting design and hearing what their experiences and needs are,” said Devin King, multimodal manager for the city. “We’ve heard from the neighborhood, and we’re excited to bring the conceptual plan to them to hear their thoughts on the direction we’re going.”

The neighborhood meeting on Dec. 14 will include a presentation and a mapping exercise to review the conceptual plan. Childcare and Spanish interpretation will be provided.

Funding for this design project comes from the 2015 Half Cent Sales and Use Tax. For more information, call (970) 375-4955 or visit the city’s website.
