Durango, CO: Satisfaction with Durango’s Transit services is up in 2023 when compared to the last couple of years based on the results of the annual Durango transit ridership survey.

Riders ranked their satisfaction with transit services on average with an 8.3 out of 10, up from 7.9 in 2022 and 7.89 in 2021.

Fort Lewis College students in the Sustainability by Design class assisted Durango Transit with collecting and analyzing the data.council highlights 11-7-23

“We want to thank the students,” said City Manager José Madrigal at the Nov. 7 council meeting where the results were presented. “The partnership between the city and Fort Lewis has always been fruitful and they’ve always done outstanding work.”

The survey looked at various trends, including the frequency of ridership, the annual income of riders, and the rider’s accessibility to a personal vehicle. The data shows that 77% of respondents did not have access to a vehicle, most respondents were daily riders, and most made less than $50,000 a year.

Most riders were aged 25 to 40. The most common occupations include service industry workers, college students, or unemployed.

Positive feedback from respondents highlighted the convenience and reliability on the system, while negative comments noted limited hours.

Durango Transit has heard requests for expanded hours for years, and in response launched the new DuranGO! Microtransit system. The service, which provides curb to curb service between 8 p.m. and 12 a.m. seven days a week, launched on Oct. 18, and has already accommodated over 320 riders. Wait times for the curb-to-curb service are on average around six minutes, and it’s a goal of the transit department to always make sure those wait times are under 30 minutes.
