The city of Durango collects lodgers tax levied on hotel rooms at a rate of 5.25%. This money is then allocated according to the 2021 ballot measure approved by voters: 55% for sustainable tourism marketing, 20% for transportation, 14% for arts/culture and 11% for council discretion.
The Lodgers' Tax Arts and Culture program was created after voters approved a 2021 increase in Lodgers’ Tax from 2% to 5.25%, with a portion of the increase dedicated to arts and culture funding The program provides financial support to individuals, non-profits, businesses, and cornerstone arts and culture organizations that contribute to the cultural vitality of the community.
